Trey Miguel, former TNA star and member of The Rascalz, has addressed his sudden departure from AEW just days after announcing a break from professional wrestling. The 31-year-old, known for his time in TNA and as part of the popular tag faction The Rascalz, shared his thoughts on social media and discussed the circumstances surrounding his AEW release.
The Rascalz in AEW and Miguel’s Absence
It was reported last week that all four members of The Rascalz—Zachary Wentz, Dezmond Xavier, Myron Reed, and Trey Miguel—were set to join AEW following their exit from TNA ahead of its debut on AMC.
The faction, now appearing in AEW, had their debut in a backstage segment on AEW Collision, with Reed, Wentz, and Xavier prominently featured. However, Miguel was notably absent from the segment, leaving fans curious about his status with the promotion.
Shortly after the debut, Miguel took to social media on Sunday, announcing he was stepping away from professional wrestling. This was quickly followed by reports indicating that Miguel had been released from his AEW contract, sparking speculation about the reasons behind his unexpected departure.
The Wrestling Observer later reported that the decision to release Miguel was made above AEW owner Tony Khan’s head, possibly involving external business partners, which adds another layer of mystery to the situation.
Miguel’s Statement on Social Media
On Monday, Miguel took to X (formerly Twitter) to address his release and reflect on his past mistakes. In his statement, he expressed regret for some of his previous actions but emphasized that he had grown and changed.
“I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my time. I’ve always apologized and did my best to put a better foot forward after,” Miguel wrote. “I don’t preach hate and I don’t take any pride in being hateful. I’m a man of faith, I believe in forgiveness and only ever preach that. I’m a different man today.”
Although Miguel did not specify the controversial social media posts that many believe may have led to his dismissal, it is widely speculated that these past actions played a role in the decision.
Miguel’s Wrestling Journey and Uncertain Future
Miguel has had a complex and sometimes controversial journey in professional wrestling. He did not join Xavier and Wentz in 2020 when they signed with WWE NXT and formed MSK. Instead, he remained in TNA before eventually rejoining The Rascalz when the faction reunited in 2025. After a brief run in TNA, the group left the promotion just ahead of TNA’s AMC debut.
As a two-time TNA X Division Champion and former TNA World Tag Team Champion, Miguel has established himself as a talented and decorated wrestler. However, his controversial past, including the social media incidents that led to his release from both WWE NXT and now AEW, continues to shape his wrestling career.
For now, Miguel’s future in the wrestling industry is uncertain. He has announced a break from the sport, but it’s unclear how long he plans to stay away or if he will return to the ring at all.
