It’s been nearly seven years since AEW’s Jon Moxley—formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE—stood alongside Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins as part of one of WWE’s most iconic factions, The Shield.
Their last match together took place in April 2019 at The Shield’s Last Chapter, where they defeated Baron Corbin, Bobby Lashley, and Drew McIntyre. Since then, all three men have gone their separate ways, becoming major names in different corners of the wrestling world.
Where Are The Shield Members Now?
Each former Shield member has taken a unique path after their breakup:
- Roman Reigns dropped the SHIELD gear and persona, returning as the “Tribal Chief” and becoming the face of WWE with a historic championship reign.
- Seth Rollins evolved into a bold, fashion-forward “Visionary,” delivering top-tier performances and winning over the crowd in a new way.
- Jon Moxley made the biggest move, leaving WWE and joining AEW. Since 2019, Moxley has become a cornerstone of the AEW roster, winning the AEW World Championship four times and currently holding the AEW Continental Championship.
While fans often hope for a reunion, the chances of it happening are slimmer than ever—especially with Moxley signed with AEW until at least 2027.
Seth Rollins Talks About a Possible Shield Reunion
In a recent interview with GQ, Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch answered questions from fans, including one about a possible Shield reunion. Rollins was honest, saying:
“Well, not a lot of love lost between myself and Roman Reigns. Dean Ambrose, Jon Moxley, not currently with the company. Don’t know if he’s ever coming back. I would say chances are very slim… Maybe one day there will be a Hall of Fame induction where all three of us will be in the same place at the same time.”
Rollins’ words seem to confirm what many fans already suspect — while the Shield’s legacy will always be remembered, a proper reunion in the ring isn’t likely any time soon.
Jon Moxley’s AEW Run
After his WWE exit in 2019, Jon Moxley wasted no time making a mark in AEW. Some of his achievements in the company include:
- Becoming the AEW World Champion four times
- Leading the company through the pandemic era as a reliable main-eventer
- Currently holding the AEW Continental Championship
- Signing a five-year contract extension in 2022, which runs through 2027
Moxley has shown full commitment to AEW, and there’s been no sign of him wanting to return to WWE.

Kurt Angle: An Honorary Shield Member?
Surprisingly, Kurt Angle might have a better chance of reuniting with Reigns and Rollins than Moxley does. Angle was an honorary member of The Shield for one night at WWE TLC 2017, stepping in for Roman Reigns due to illness. Dressed in full Shield gear, Angle made his entrance through the crowd with Rollins and Moxley—something fans still remember fondly.
Reflecting on the possibility of a reunion, Rollins joked:
“Maybe Kurt Angle has a better chance [of reuniting].”
Angle retired from in-ring action in 2019 after losing to Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35, but his short Shield moment still stands out in WWE history.
