Season 2 of WWE Unreal continues to dive deep into the real stories behind WWE’s most talked-about moments — and Naomi’s 2022 walkout with Sasha Banks (now AEW’s Mercedes Moné) takes centre stage in the second episode. For the first time, Naomi, real name Trinity Fatu, shares her side of the story — along with her husband Jimmy Uso, WWE legends, and creative insiders.
The result is one of the most emotional and revealing episodes in the series so far.
Naomi Walks Out of WWE in 2022
Back in May 2022, Naomi and Sasha Banks were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. But on the night they were scheduled to face each other in a six-pack challenge on Raw, they made the shocking decision to walk out of the arena — and the company.
According to Naomi, the issue wasn’t just creative direction. It was about standing up for what she believed in:
“In 2022, my tag team partner Sasha Banks and I were champions. There was a lot that happened that day at work that led us to leave… I needed to stand up for myself. Not as Naomi, but as Trinity.”
She didn’t elaborate on all the backstage details, but it was clear both women were frustrated with being sidelined as tag champions, and unhappy with the creative decision to split them up for singles storylines.
Jimmy Uso Reflects on the Walkout
Naomi’s husband and fellow WWE Superstar Jimmy Uso recounted how blindsided he was that night:
“I just remember after my match, I went to look for her and I couldn’t even find her. And I called her and she was like, ‘I left.’ And I was like, ‘damn.’”
He went on to say that her absence was deeply felt — not just professionally, but personally:
“When your ride-or-die ain’t by you… of course you feel that effect.”
Creative Team Reacts: “The Wrong Thing to Do”
Not everyone backstage supported Naomi’s decision at the time. WWE’s VP of Creative Writing, Michael Hayes, didn’t mince words on the show:
“I was shocked. That’s the wrong thing to do. You work the show… so later down the line you’re not burning that bridge.”
But for Naomi, the moment was about personal growth, not just business.
Life After WWE: TNA, Reflection & Return
Naomi took nearly two years away from WWE, eventually debuting in TNA Wrestling in April 2023. There, she found renewed purpose, won the Knockouts World Championship, and proved herself as a main event player outside of WWE.
But in 2024, she returned to WWE — and in her words, it was all about family.
“What led to me returning to WWE was my family. All my family was there… It also makes me wanna pull my weight because I’m surrounded by great wrestlers.”
Her return saw her team with Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill, before shocking fans by turning heel and attacking Cargill — an angle that set her up for one of the best heel runs in recent WWE history.
Naomi’s Biggest WWE Run Yet
In 2025, Naomi made her biggest impact yet:
- Won the Women’s Money in the Bank contract
- Cashed in at WWE Evolution PLE to become Women’s World Champion
- Delivered standout matches and promos during her reign
36 days after winning the title, Naomi announced her pregnancy and is currently out of action, but fans are eagerly waiting for her next chapter.
