It has been a difficult journey for Eddie Kingston over the past two years. From a serious knee injury to now dealing with health issues again, the road has not been easy for “The Mad King.” Fans were excited when he finally returned to action, but unfortunately, another setback has slowed him down.
Let’s take a closer look at what is happening with Eddie Kingston and what it means for AEW moving forward.
Eddie Kingston’s Long Road Back from Injury
Eddie Kingston suffered a major injury in May 2024 at NJPW Resurgence. During his match against Gabe Kidd, Kingston tore his ACL and meniscus.
That kind of injury is serious for any athlete, especially for a professional wrestler. It required surgery and a long rehabilitation process. Kingston was out of action for 16 months, which is a very long time in wrestling.
He finally returned at AEW All Out last September and picked up a win over Big Bill. Fans were happy to see him back in the ring.
His most recent match took place on the February 7 episode of AEW Collision. Kingston teamed with Ortiz and The Rascalz in a brutal Parking Lot Brawl. After that match, however, he quietly disappeared from AEW television.
Why Is Eddie Kingston Off AEW TV Again?
According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, Kingston is not backstage at the current AEW tapings in Denver. He has also pulled out of his scheduled independent wrestling dates.
The reason is serious migraine headaches.
Migraines are not just normal headaches. They can cause extreme pain, sensitivity to light and sound, and even nausea. For someone who performs in bright arenas with loud crowds, this can be very difficult.
What makes this situation more concerning is that Kingston was in the middle of what he has described as his final run on the independent scene. He planned to stop working indie dates by the end of this year. For him to cancel those shows means the health issue is significant.
At the moment, there is no clear timetable for his return to AEW programming.
AEW Dynamite: Mile High Madness Preview
Tonight’s special joint taping of AEW Dynamite and Collision will take place at the Mission Ballroom in Denver, Colorado.
The main event is a “Mile High Madness” anything goes match. The teams involved include:
- The Young Bucks
- Jungle Jack Perry
- The Rascalz
They will face:
- FTR
- The Demand
The rivalry intensified after FTR attacked the Young Bucks’ younger brother, Malachi, with a spike piledriver on Collision.
There is also a big women’s tag team title match scheduled. Babes of Wrath will defend the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Titles against MegaBad. Recently, fans saw a similar storyline between Kris Statlander and Thekla, where a rematch led to a surprise title change.
That pattern has fans wondering if another championship change could happen tonight.
What’s Next for Eddie Kingston?
Right now, the focus is on Kingston’s health. Wrestling fans know how passionate and hardworking he is. He rarely steps away unless absolutely necessary.
Migraine issues can sometimes take time to properly manage. Rest and medical treatment are essential. AEW will likely give him the space he needs before planning his return.
Kingston has already shown incredible resilience by coming back from a serious knee injury. If history tells us anything, it is that he will fight his way back again.
