CM Punk is still holding the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, but the big question now is simple – can he survive until WrestleMania 42?
After a hard-fought win at Elimination Chamber, Punk is heading into one of the biggest matches of his career. And waiting for him on the grandest stage is Roman Reigns.
CM Punk Retains at Elimination Chamber
CM Punk successfully defended his title against Finn Balor at WWE Elimination Chamber inside the United Center in Chicago.
The match was intense and evenly balanced. Balor nearly won after attempting his Coup De Gras, but Punk smartly countered the move into a Sharpshooter submission. Moments later, he delivered the GTS and secured the victory.
After the match, Punk celebrated with his hometown crowd and his wife, AJ Lee, who had earlier defeated Becky Lynch to win the Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
But Punk did something that caught everyone’s attention. He raised one finger in the air — the signature pose of Roman Reigns. That small gesture sent a big message.
Roman Reigns Fires Back
Roman Reigns did not stay silent for long.
Reigns, who won the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble, has already chosen Punk as his WrestleMania opponent. The two had a tense face-off on Raw weeks ago, and now things are getting personal.
After Punk’s celebration, Reigns posted a sharp message on social media, mocking both the champion and the Chicago crowd. He even warned Punk to “enjoy this final month of relevancy.”
That comment clearly shows Reigns is confident heading into WrestleMania 42.
History Between Punk and Reigns
This rivalry is not new.
At WrestleMania 41, Punk and Reigns were part of the Night One main event along with Seth Rollins. In a shocking twist, Paul Heyman turned on both Punk and Reigns to align with Rollins.
Rollins won that match, and the next night on Raw, he formed The Vision with Bron Breakker.
Now, one year later, Punk and Reigns are once again on a collision course — but this time, the World Heavyweight Championship is on the line.
WrestleMania 42 Card Takes Shape
Elimination Chamber also gave fans more clarity about the WrestleMania 42 lineup.
Here is a simple overview of the confirmed matches so far:
| Match | Championship |
|---|---|
| CM Punk vs Roman Reigns | World Heavyweight Championship |
| Rhea Ripley vs Jade Cargill | WWE Women’s Championship |
| Liv Morgan vs Stephanie Vaquer | Women’s World Championship |
| Randy Orton vs Drew McIntyre | WWE Championship |
Rhea Ripley earned her title shot by winning the Women’s Elimination Chamber match. She will now challenge Jade Cargill.
Liv Morgan, the 2026 Women’s Royal Rumble winner, chose to face Stephanie Vaquer for the Women’s World Championship.
On the men’s side, Randy Orton won the Elimination Chamber match and will challenge Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship.
WrestleMania 42 will take place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on April 18 and 19.

Can CM Punk Survive Roman Reigns?
Punk proved at Elimination Chamber that he is still sharp and dangerous. His ability to counter Balor’s finisher into a submission showed his ring intelligence. However, Roman Reigns is a completely different challenge.
Reigns has main-evented WrestleMania multiple times and thrives under pressure. He also has extra motivation after failing to win at WrestleMania 41.
Punk mocking Reigns’ pose may have felt satisfying in Chicago, but it could also make the Tribal Chief even more focused.
