Chris Jericho’s absence from the wrestling world has sparked a wave of speculation. With no recent appearances in AEW and rumours swirling about a possible WWE return, fans are left wondering—where is Jericho, and what’s next for the 55-year-old legend?
Chris Jericho Misses the Royal Rumble, Status Still Unclear
Many believed that Jericho would make a surprise return at the Royal Rumble 2024 in Saudi Arabia. After all, it’s the kind of moment tailor-made for his dramatic entrances. But he didn’t show up, and reports now suggest there were no serious WWE plans for him to begin with.
Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select confirmed that WWE had not factored Jericho into any creative plans—not for the Royal Rumble, not even for the RAW on Netflix anniversary show.
“We’ve been told for weeks that Jericho has not been factored into WWE plans… Sources in WWE say there is interest in Chris Jericho, should he become available. However, that just hasn’t happened yet,” Sapp reported.
Jericho’s AEW Contract: Still Active?
Chris Jericho signed a three-year extension with AEW in 2022, meaning his deal should run until late 2025. Although he hasn’t appeared on AEW programming since April 2023, he remains listed on the company’s official roster.
It’s important to remember that unlike other sports, professional wrestling companies aren’t obligated to announce contract extensions or freezes. So unless Jericho or AEW makes an official statement, fans are left guessing.
Despite rumours in December 2023 about Jericho possibly being “WWE-bound,” those reports have cooled. All signs point to him still being under AEW contract—for now.
WWE and AEW Star Swaps Continue
While Jericho’s future hangs in the balance, the wrestling world continues to see big names switch sides between WWE and AEW.
Recent Moves Include:
- Andrade El Idolo: Moved from WWE to AEW
- Tommaso Ciampa: Joined AEW and won the TNT Championship in his debut match
- Powerhouse Hobbs: Now competing in WWE under the ring name Royce Keys
Who Is Royce Keys? (FKA Powerhouse Hobbs)
Making his WWE debut at the 2024 Royal Rumble, Royce Keys (formerly Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW) has already made headlines. Some were confused by the name change, but there’s deep meaning behind it.
- Royce is named after his youngest son
- Keys is the maiden name of his late mother
Backstage reaction to his debut has reportedly been very positive, and it looks like WWE is investing in his push early on.
Could Jericho Still Return to WWE?
WWE sources say there’s definitely interest in Jericho if he becomes available. With his legacy, mic skills, and ability to reinvent himself, Jericho remains one of the most valuable veterans in the business.
However, unless something changes in his contract status with AEW, any WWE return would have to wait until late 2025—or until an early release is negotiated.
