It looked like Ava, daughter of WWE legend The Rock, was following in her father’s footsteps. But just as things seemed to be picking up for her, she made a surprising decision to walk away from the company. Now fans are asking — why?
Ava’s Journey in WWE
Simone Johnson, known in WWE as Ava, joined the company back in 2020 and began training at the Performance Center. As a fourth-generation wrestler, expectations were sky-high. She made her on-screen debut in NXT as part of The Schism faction. Though the group didn’t last long, Ava found her own path, stepping into an on-air leadership role.
She soon became NXT’s General Manager, taking on a central presence on weekly television and becoming a key authority figure on the show. It seemed like WWE had big plans for her — but behind the scenes, things were shifting.
Why Did Ava Leave WWE?
According to reports, Ava’s contract expired before last week’s NXT episode, and she decided not to re-sign, despite being offered a new contract and a raise.
One major reason for her departure may have been the lack of space on the main roster. While she did appear briefly on SmackDown in her General Manager role, there wasn’t a consistent spot for her on either flagship show. Right now, Adam Pearce handles Raw, and Nick Aldis runs SmackDown — both are well-established in their roles and popular with fans.
With no clear path upward, Ava may have felt like her career was stuck.
Online Controversy & Exit From Social Media
After leaving WWE, Ava made headlines for posting a tweet criticizing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). The tweet sparked some backlash, and Ava soon deleted her Twitter account. Some believed WWE forced her to remove it, but new reports say she deleted it on her own, not because of company pressure.
This shows that her decision to walk away from wrestling might also reflect a desire to focus on personal interests and causes beyond WWE.
What’s Next for Ava?
So far, Ava hasn’t revealed what she plans to do next. Whether she pursues acting, activism, or something entirely different, she’s stepping away on her own terms — and with a famous last name, plenty of doors will be open.
What About The Rock?
Ava’s father, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, hasn’t been seen in WWE since his major appearance at the Elimination Chamber PLE last year. He played a key role in turning John Cena heel — something fans never thought they’d see.
Although he was rumoured to appear at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, it didn’t happen. Now, fresh reports suggest Saudi Arabia is working hard to bring The Rock to WrestleMania 43 in Riyadh, which would be a massive moment if it happens.
WWE’s Global Expansion Continues
WWE continues to push its global presence. The Royal Rumble was recently held in Saudi Arabia for the first time, and now WrestleMania 43 is set to be hosted outside the U.S. for the very first time — also in Riyadh. That would make The Rock’s potential return on an international stage even more significant.
Ava’s exit from WWE may seem sudden, but it highlights how tough it is to find a spot even with a legendary wrestling name. With no clear path to the main roster, and other passions calling her, Ava chose to step away — a bold move in an industry known for its grind.
As for The Rock, don’t be surprised if he’s back on the WWE stage soon — this time in Saudi Arabia, under the WrestleMania spotlight.
