AEW Collision brought the action once again with a stacked episode aired on TNT and HBO Max, despite the ongoing winter storm affecting most of the country. Taped earlier in the week from Orlando, Florida, this week’s edition delivered intense matches, title defences, big returns, and some brewing rivalries that are sure to heat up the AEW landscape.
Claudio Castagnoli retains in hard-hitting main event
The main event saw Claudio Castagnoli successfully defend his CMLL World Heavyweight Championship against Roderick Strong. In what was a brutal and technical clash, Strong gave it everything he had — targeting Claudio’s legs and landing some of his signature backbreakers. However, a leg injury caught up with him, and a moment of misfortune allowed Claudio to pull the referee into the path of a knee strike.
The “Swiss Superman” took full advantage, swinging Strong with just one leg before hitting the Neutralizer to retain the title. The win strengthens Claudio’s grip on the championship while further fueling The Death Riders’ dominance in AEW.
Willow Nightingale defends the TBS Title
In one of the night’s top women’s matches, Willow Nightingale retained her TBS Championship in a hard-fought bout against Julia Hart. Hart came extremely close to winning, reversing Willow’s powerbomb into a hurricanrana for a near fall. But in the end, Willow powered through and delivered Babe with the Powerbomb to walk out victorious.
Her second reign as TBS Champion is off to a strong start, but with contenders like Julia pushing her to the edge, Willow’s path forward won’t be easy.
“Hangman” Adam Page wins against Shibata
AEW World Trios Champion Hangman Adam Page went to war with Katsuyori Shibata in one of the most physical matches of the night. The hard-hitting contest saw both men push each other to the limit, but Hangman got the win after landing the Buckshot Lariat in a fantastic back-and-forth fight.
Women’s Division drama: Statlander wins, but Thekla issues a warning
Kris Statlander, the AEW Women’s World Champion, took on Isla Dawn and picked up a solid victory after hitting Saturday Night Fever. However, the celebration didn’t last long.
After the match, Thekla appeared on the screen, mocked Statlander, and claimed that Kris had just competed in her last match as champion. She spat on a Statlander t-shirt and tossed it in the bin, making her intentions very clear.
Don Callis Family continues momentum
Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita, representing the Don Callis Family, defeated Billy & Austin Gunn in a solid tag bout. Fletcher landed a powerful boot to Austin, who then stumbled into Takeshita’s Raging Fire finisher.
After the win, Kazuchika Okada appeared on stage to sarcastically applaud the pair — hinting at a future clash with Takeshita. Tensions within AEW’s factions are heating up fast.
Tag Team contenders shine
In tag team action, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle looked dominant as they beat Jordan Oliver & Alec Price in a quick and impactful match. Davis hit a stump piledriver, and Doyle followed with a spinning side slam, leading to a double pin. The duo looks primed for a shot at AEW tag team gold.
Andrade builds momentum
Andrade El Idolo continued his winning return to AEW with a win over Magnus, one half of the CMLL Mexican National Tag Team Champions. After surviving some big moves from Magnus, Andrade delivered the running knees into the corner and followed up with The DM for the win. That’s two victories in a row since his comeback.
Jamie Hayter receives surprise proposal
Backstage, Alex Windsor made a surprise proposal to Jamie Hayter — asking her to team up as a tag team and go after gold. Hayter paused for a moment and simply replied, “We better get matching outfits.” A new women’s tag team might be forming soon in AEW.
Other highlights
- The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake) demanded a rematch with Eddie Kingston & Ortiz, promising to bring weapons if needed. Kingston, as expected, wasn’t rattled.
- The Rascalz (Desmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz) won a game of rock-paper-scissors to decide who would face Cru in their AEW tag team debut.
AEW Collision in Orlando delivered top-tier wrestling, fresh rivalries, and surprises that build serious anticipation for what’s next in AEW.
